Simple Pleasure #2

Perennials!
Lavender in particular is one of my favorite perennials. And, perennials are definitely one of the better simple pleasures in life. Nothing is better than investing one's time in planting a seed or start and being rewarded with it growing, blooming, dying and regenerating the following spring. Seeing the little shoots of green spiking out of the ash gray growth from the previous year brings tangible proof of that spring is a time of renewal.

Today I started weeding my garden which is a laborious project especially due to my healing broken ankle. Turning the soil over went faster than I expected, though, due to the fact that last year a group of friends helped me prep this garden.

Good friends. Really good friends are another simple pleasure.

I need to learn more about perennials! I love lavender and have a couple of places it would be nice to see it growing.

I love lavender, too; this is a gorgeous one! I have several varities; I just love them!

And I'm doing Simple Pleasures on my blog as well, stolen from you and Tia. :)

They definitely are a simple pleasure. Like a miracle when they re-emerge each spring.

YOu know, it's that re-emerging thing that is usually elusive to me. I think it's because my garden gets too much rain and snow. Last year I tried to fix the problem but most of my perennials died except for about 4 out of 8 lavender and 2 daisies. It's a bit frustrating now that I think of it.

I absolutely agree about perennials! I planted mostly perennials in our garden last year and this year am being rewarded!

Lol... just read your reply to ampersand. Sorry they're not re-emerging. That's a downer.

How can perennials not re-emerge. I'm so sad about that for you. What were they? Are they just not winter-hardy for your area?

I ask, because I've have had almost everything I've ever planted come back -- even if it came back weakly due to poor location. And I am an extremely negligent gardener!!
